Michael Shumacher’s wife Corinna has opened up about her husband for the first time since his ski accident in 2013 which left the F1 legend husband in an induced coma.

Speaking to She Magazine, the interview was mainly about the Schumacher family’s horse-riding passion and how the seven-time champion inspired and supported them.

Corinna, 50, said that her husband encouraged her and their daughter’s passion and that without him Gina, 22, would not have become a champion rider.

Representing Germany, his daughter won gold at the Reining European Championships in Switzerland this year.

“I feel the greatest pride when I see Gina,” Corinna said.

“What she has already achieved and how much fun she has – that makes me happy.”

“When you drive a car, you can stick it in the garage afterwards. But a horse needs to be looked after all the time, even on Sundays,” Gina said her father always told her.

Schumacher purchased a Swiss ranch in 2005 to celebrate the couple’s wedding anniversary, and on that property the family kept 40 horses.

Corinna gushed about how her husband “did everything” for the family.

“When I was 30, I very much wanted to have a horse and Michael went with me to Dubai, where I intended to buy an Arabian horse,” she said.

“I will never forget who I have to thank. That would be my husband Michael.”

Schumacher has been in a coma since 2014, cared for by a team of medical professionals at his Lake Geneva home.

Earlier this year it was reported that he traveled from Switzerland to Paris to receive stem cell treatment from a renowned specialist Professor Philippe Menasche.
