The all-rounder in Pakistan’s first-ever cricket team, Maqsood Ahmed, named Imran Khan captain of the 1992 World Cup-winning team.

Maqsood, who was the then chief selector of the national team, showed immense confidence in Khan who led Pakistan to the only World Cup title.

Also known as Merry Max, Maqsood had played 16 Tests for Pakistan and his memorable 137-run inning against MCC in 1951-52 gave an identity to the national team in red-ball cricket.

On the other hand, after retiring from cricket, Maqsood worked as a commentator for Pakistan Television (PTV) and served as a sports journalist for renowned media organizations including BBC and Radio Pakistan.
